Cookie Policy
Version 2026-09-29 · Effective 29 September 2026
This policy explains what SocialMetrics stores on your device, why, and how you control it. It covers cookies and equivalent technologies — including localStorage, which the law treats the same way.
1. The short version
We store two kinds of things on your device:
- Strictly necessary storage — without it you cannot stay signed in or use the app. This needs no consent, and cannot be switched off.
- Analytics — Google Analytics on our public website. This is optional, we ask before loading it, and you can change your mind at any time.
We do not use advertising cookies. We do not use tracking for profiling or cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell what we collect.
2. Strictly necessary storage
These are stored in your browser's localStorage, not as traditional cookies, and they never leave your device except where noted.
| Key | What it holds | Why | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
socialmetrics_user_sid | Your session identifier | Keeps you signed in. Sent to our server on each request as the X-User-Session header | Until you sign out, or the session expires (30 days) |
| Language preference | en or es | Shows the interface in your language | Until you clear it |
| Theme preference | light / dark / system | Remembers your appearance choice | Until you clear it |
| Query cache | A copy of the metrics already shown to you | Makes the app fast and reduces calls to Instagram's API | Cleared on sign-out; refreshed as data goes stale |
| Analytics choice | Whether you accepted or refused analytics | So we do not ask you again on every visit | Until you clear it |
| Pending invitation code | An invite code you opened while signed out | Lets an invite survive the login flow | Until used |
Under the EU ePrivacy Directive these fall within the "strictly necessary" exemption, so we do not ask for consent. They are technically required to deliver a service you have requested.
Clearing them signs you out and resets your preferences. The app keeps working.
3. Analytics — optional, consent-based
Our public marketing website loads Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-ZJBZJRYK13).
| Provider | |
| What it collects | Pages viewed, referrer, approximate location derived from IP, device and browser type, and a randomly generated identifier |
| Why | To understand which pages are useful and how people find us |
| Where | United States / global |
| Lifetime | Up to 2 years for the main identifier |
This is not loaded unless you allow it. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with equivalent rules, we ask you first and load nothing until you choose. If you refuse, no analytics script is loaded and no analytics identifier is created.
Google's own explanation of how it handles this data is at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
4. How to change your choice
- In SocialMetrics — open Settings → Preferences → Privacy, and switch analytics on or off. Turning it off stops further collection immediately.
- In your browser — you can block or delete cookies and site data for this site. Consult your browser's help; note that clearing everything also removes the strictly necessary items above, which signs you out.
- Global Privacy Control — if your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a refusal of analytics.
- Google's opt-out — Google offers a browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
5. Third-party pages
Some parts of the experience are hosted by others and have their own cookie practices, which we do not control:
- Stripe — the checkout and customer-portal pages. See https://stripe.com/privacy.
- Google — the sign-in screen, if you use it.
- Instagram / Meta — the authorisation screen when you connect an account.
6. Changes
We will update this policy if we add, remove or change what we store. Material changes are announced in the application, and where a change requires consent we will ask again.
